Adfest 2013: Taproot India crowned Agency of the Year, brings home 11 metals | Advertising | Campaign India
Taproot India was crowned Agency of the Year at the Lotus Awards at Adfest 2013 announced in Pattaya, Thailand on 19 March 2013. The agency won the trophy on the back of winning 11 metals, including 1 Grande, 1 Lotus Root, 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 6 Bronze awards.
Among Indian agencies, McCann Worldgroup India bagged 6 metals, which included 1 Lotus Root, 4 Silver and 1 Bronze awards. BBDO India won an Effective Lotus and backed it up with a Silver win.
In all, Indian agencies brought home 33 metals, including 1 Grande, 2 Lotus Root, 1 Effective, 1 Gold, 13 Silver and 15 Bronze Lotus awards.
Leo Burnett bagged the Network of the Year trophy, while Diageo won the Advertiser of the Year title. Hakuhodo Inc. Tokyo was recognised as Interactive Agency of the Year, while Leo Burnett Melbourne was awarded the Direct & Promo Agency of the Year award. Illusion Co. Bangkok won the Production Company of the Year title at this year’s awards.

In the ‘Best of Travel, Tourism and Transport’ sub-category, McCann Worldgroup India’s entry ‘Bindi/Aarti’ for Yatra.com and Contract Advertising’s entry ‘Morphy Richards - Corruption’ for Morphy Richards in the ‘Best of Household Products and Maintenance’ sub-category won a Silver Lotus each.
The Bronze Lotus winning entries from India were: Scarecrow Communications’ entry ‘Mrs. Pinto’ for Panasonic SmooSpeak Video Door Phone in the ‘Best of Home Appliances and Furnishings’ sub-category; ‘Girl Child’ for Kaun Banega Crorepati (Who Wants to be a Millionaire) in the ‘Best of Communication Media and Publications’ sub-category; ‘IPL- Carnival’ for BCCI entered by Bang Bang Films in the ‘Best of Entertainment, Recreation and Leisure’ sub-category; and, Taproot India’s ‘Fox Movies Subtitles’ for Fox Movies in the ‘Best of Communication Media and Publications’ sub-category.

Indian agencies bagged 2 Silver and 2 Bronze Lotus awards in the Outdoor Lotus category.
McCann Worldgroup India’s entry ‘Franklin Gandhi/Queen Mao/Lincoln Fahd’ for Western Union Money Transfer won a Silver Lotus each in the ‘Two Dimensional large/Highway Billboards’ and ‘Best of Financial’ sub-categories.
Taproot India’s entries ‘ReCycled CD's’ for Rolling Stone in the ‘Best of Corporate’ sub-category, and DDB Mudra Group entry ‘JFK/Elvis/Rosewell’ for Paper Shredder in the ‘Best of Business Equipment’ sub-category, won a Bronze Lotus each.
Radio Lotus
Leo Burnett India’s ‘Toothpaste/Diaper’ for Reliance Digital TV in the ‘Best of Commercial Public Services and Private Services’ sub-category was the only Indian metal winner in radio. The entry won a Bronze Lotus.
Direct Lotus
The lone Indian entry that was shortlisted in the category, BBDO’s ‘The Pissing Letter’ for Diastix, in the ‘Flat Mail: Business-to-Consumer’ sub-category, won a Bronze Lotus.
Effective Lotus
The category only had seven shortlists and BBDO India’s entry ‘You Shave, I Shave’ for Gillette was the only Indian representation. The entry was awarded an Effective Lotus, along with three other entries.
The other Effective Lotus winning entries were: ‘Chok! Chok! Chok!’ for Coca-Cola by Mccann Worldgroup (Hong Kong), ‘Using the power of Impotence’ for Selleys by Belgiovane Williams Mackay Sydney, and ‘Beijing Duck’ for Sunsnack by The Leo Burnett Group Thailand.
Lotus Roots
Taproot India’s entry ‘I am Mumbai’ for Mumbai Mirror won the top honour in this category – a Grande Lotus Root. Another entry from the agency ‘Abused Goddess 1’, ‘Abused Goddess 2’ and ‘Abused Goddess 3’ for Save Our Sisters also bagged a Lotus Root. McCann Worldgroup India’s entries ‘Bindi’ and ‘Aarti’ for Yatra.com also made the cut and won a Lotus Root award.
